The Leftovers – The Thanks that keep on Giving

I feel like every family has a meal that they put together for their thanksgiving leftovers. In our family it’s cooking the leftover turkey and gravy together and putting them on open face sandwiches or on egg noodles. I always thought it was something every family did until my friends had a weird look on their face when I told them. Whatever your family traditions are, I’m here to bring light to some ideas that maybe you haven’t thought of yet!

When I got older and moved to Charleston, SC, I fell in love with the Thanksgiving leftover sandwich from The Tattooed Moose. The sandwich is as follows:

The Thanksgiving Leftover Sammy

Filled with sliced turkey, stuffing that’s made of sweet cornbread, and a cranberry sauce beautifully placed between two pieces of bread, it’s probably the next best thing to a full Thanksgiving meal. The thing to top it all off though is the bowl of gravy for dipping your sandwich into. It’s unreal. I plan on making a poor man’s version of this after the day in question.

However, I was looking online for other note-worthy left over meals to see what culinary artistry I may be missing out on….Note: This is bad to do before lunchtime.

Thanksgiving Leftover Casserole

For the casserole lovers who prefer to just layer together the leftover ingredients, this is perfect. After making such an involved meal for thanksgiving, we want the follow up to be simple and hassle-free. What I love about this recipe is the focus on stuffing…..we never have any left over at my house, but this would be a nice dish to make some more for. I mean, look at it….mouth watering!

The Leftover Breakfast Bagel Sammy

I love meals that are simple, and delicious. I never thought to make leftovers for a breakfast dish. For some reason, I only think of leftovers as a lunch or dinner thing. What I loved is the creative kick of cranberry sauce with the savory. Sweet and salty are the best combo! I’m probably going to end up making all of these….should I even HAVE regular thanksgiving????
